Asset Naming Convention

This naming convention exists for the purpose of organizing assets in a single group of assets, and all assets have to follow this convention.

The naming convention is as follows:

GRG_AssetType_Asset

Explained:
  • GRG: GRG refers to Garage, as in Project Garage, referring to the project under which all assets presented on this blog fall under.
  • AssetType: AssetType refers to the specific type of asset, of which there will be four.
    • Character: Refers to the character model and any assets made for the character.
    • Props: Refers to all environmental assets.
    • Vehicle: Refers to the vehicle and any assets related to the vehicle.
    • Building: Refers to the building.
  • Asset: Refers to specific individual assets.

For textures within Maya, the naming convention can be adapted as follows:

GRG_AssetType_Texture


In the case of the environment as a whole, the following is best used:

GRG_Garage
